The office is the result of a partnership between Cosmopolitan Projects and the South African Police Service, and it gives Sky City residents local access to policing services without having to travel further into the greater Johannesburg area for routine matters like affidavits or case reporting.
As one of the largest and fastest-growing affordable housing developments in the area, Sky City has seen thousands of new residents move in over the past few years, alongside new schools and businesses. That growth made visible, accessible policing a priority.
"As the area continues to grow, I recognised the increasing need for a visible police presence to ensure residents feel secure and supported," said Donovan Snyman, Marketing Representative at Cosmopolitan Projects. "By working with SAPS, we are proactively addressing safety concerns and fostering trust between the community and law enforcement. This isn't just about reducing crime; it's about strengthening the fabric of the community."
The new satellite office sits steps from Royal Schools Sky City and the Cosmopolitan Projects offices, placing it directly in one of the development's highest-footfall areas.
"By placing the SAPS presence near the school and community hub, we're safeguarding vulnerable groups and deterring potential criminal activity where it's most likely to occur," Snyman added.
Cosmopolitan Projects didn't just hand over a building, the office followed several rounds of discussions with SAPS regional offices to weigh up short- and long-term safety solutions for the area. While the current office operates as a satellite branch, it lays the groundwork for a full-service police station further down the line, should demand justify it as the Sky City development continues to expand.
Cosmopolitan Projects also supplied the infrastructure and basic office amenities needed to get the branch operational, reflecting the developer's broader approach to building communities that go beyond housing alone.
Sky City's safety upgrades don't stop at the SAPS office. The development already runs solar-powered security cameras fitted with Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), giving the area round-the-clock, eco-friendly surveillance that helps track vehicles moving in and out and supports faster investigations.
"Safety is at the centre of everything we do. Initiatives like the ANPR cameras and police partnerships ensure residents feel safe at home, at school, and in public spaces," said Snyman.
The reception from the Sky City community has been strongly positive. Resident Zoe Motaung shared her relief: "This is great news for our community. Having a SAPS office nearby brings peace of mind. In the past, even simple tasks like certifying documents meant travelling long distances, which was not always possible without transport. I remember when someone close to me was involved in an accident, and reporting it was a challenge because the nearest station was too far. Now, it feels like our safety is being taken seriously, and that gives us confidence."

Cosmopolitan Projects is open to replicating the Sky City model at other Cosmopolitan developments around the country, once the lessons from this rollout have been fully assessed.
"We'll consider it again, but we want to ensure we apply all the learnings from this rollout. Every community is different, but safety should always come first," Snyman concluded.
